into the light news

The light news is a weekly column written by a senior-level English professor at a small liberal arts college in southern California. It is a bit of light reading to keep me from falling asleep.

In a nutshell, it is a series of quotes from a news story or opinion piece that are written from a student’s perspective, so they are easier to read (and more often read) than from a professional journalist. In recent years I have posted a lot of this column on the blog, so hopefully you’ll find it useful.

I just finished a book that made a huge impact on me, The Light at the End of the Tunnel, by my new favorite (and probably best) author, Sherry Turkle, an award-winning psychologist, the world-renowned expert on technology, and a woman I admire greatly. What’s most interesting about her work is that it’s entirely about the technology of the present – everything she says is about the future.

That’s what I love about her work, that it is a present-oriented view of the world. While there is certainly a lot of future-oriented technology to look at, there isn’t a lot of it that doesn’t begin to deal with the present. It’s interesting that the whole of her book is about the future, and the present, it’s totally amazing.

I can’t speak for the lady, but I personally think she is one of the most honest people I’ve ever met, I think she loves life, and just wants to be happy with what she is. She spends a lot of time working on her projects, so she sees the whole project as a part of her life, not just a job. Thats what I mean by being an out-of-the-box thinker.

Most of that is about the future, and the present. Its great that she is able to view the two as a single whole, but I think the whole book is just another way of putting it. I feel like most of that is a way to really emphasize the fact that we are all in this together, and that we all live in this together, and that we should all try to be happy with what we have.

She’s right. The future does suck, and it’s not as pretty as she thinks. But the future’s great. I mean, its always the future, and it gives us a perspective of living in the moment, and we can be thankful that we can make it.

The future is never pretty. Most of us feel that way, but the future is never as pretty as we want it to be. But the future is always the kind of future that you want, and the kind of future that you can still make, even in the shitty parts of the future that you don’t want.

To better understand our future, we need to look at the past and imagine the future with our eyes open. The past is a time when we see the world as we knew it in the past. The past is a time when we were living in the world as we know it, so we can imagine what it was like in the past, and what it will be like in the future.

To better understand our past, we need to look at the present. To better understand our future, we need to look at the future we can see, or more specifically, at the future we can imagine.
